Can Oils Treat Eczema?
What is Eczema?
Ask any eczema sufferer and they will tell you that their main complaints are dry, scaly skin; redness and itching, which can be unbearable and painful. The most common form is atopic eczema, although there are actually 6 other types. Atopic eczema (or atopic dermatitis) basically develops because the skin’s natural barrier function is affected, which means that allergens and irritants are able to attack. The simplest response to this is to see how we can improve and increase the skin’s natural barrier function, i.e. applying topical remedies to the skin. The NHS website says “there is no cure but in many cases emollients can help to effectively relieve symptoms”. There are hundreds of ‘emollients’ on the market so how does one know which way to turn?
Is Eczema Common?
The National Eczema Association says that up to 20% of children and 3% of adults suffer from atopic eczema worldwide. It can range from mild itchiness to severe irritation and even skin pain. These unpleasant physical symptoms can affect sleep quality and, where the eczema is visible (such as on the face), also psychological issues because of the negativity associated with blemishes. Because eczema is so common in children, there may be up to 6 children in a class of 30 that suffer from its debilitating effects. Sadly, this can translate into low self-esteem and bullying issues. The NHS Nottingham University Hospitals address this very issue and offer guidance and support for these children in terms of their social interaction and potential online vulnerability.

Why are Omega Oil and Balm are so effective?
The reason is that they contain the building blocks of our skin, which support the barrier function… the Omegas! Our cells need omega oil to function effectively and when we apply Botanico Vida’s Omega Oil topically, it works naturally (exactly as it does internally when we take a supplement) by putting the skin's building blocks, essential fatty acids and other vitamins, directly back into the skin.
The oils absorb directly into the skin and are immediately put to work, nourishing and hydrating to reduce redness, dryness, irritation and poor elasticity. The cells are essentially ‘re-fuelled’ and the skin's barrier function and natural moisturising factors are reinforced. Of course, the special, key ingredient is Sacha Inchi, the oil from a little seed in Peru, which contains the world’s most concentrated source of omega oils of any known plant source. In particular it contains high levels of Omega 3, the essential nutrient for brain, heart and skin health, that our bodies simply cannot produce naturally. While the Peruvian Amazonians have been using this remarkable seed for thousands of years, we are just discovering its fantastic benefits!
